Weather in Lebanon

An air depression is formed, accompanied by winds with a peak speed of 93 km per hour, from tonight until the evening of next Wednesday, which may lead to the fall of billboards, columns, and trees that may pose a threat to public safety. ?

In this context, the head of the Global Environment Party, the head of experts in protecting health and the global environment, and the international advisor on global environment and climate affairs, Dr. Domit Kamel said that the eastern Mediterranean region is witnessing dangerous fluctuations in weather conditions, and this resulted in storms, some time ago, that caused snowfall in northern Egypt, and Turkey witnessed (yesterday) a devastating storm that led to deaths.

He said in an interview with “Lebanon Debate”: “On the other hand, Lebanon is witnessing today a number of air masses battling between Europe, the heart of the Mediterranean and the northern region, and they are moving at very high speeds, and some of them may reach Lebanon, and if that happens, we must be equipped. In a scientific way and confronting plans, because, as we know, the infrastructure in Lebanon is not ready to receive storms with a speed of 100 or 120 km or more. and cut the electrical wires).

He added, "We are facing financial difficulties in the country, and therefore there is no doubt that most of the competent agencies, whether municipalities or others, and due to the lack of full funding, may not have a plan to fully confront storms of this type," pointing out that " Turkey, which is considered one of the big countries and has great human, industrial and other capabilities, and was unable to face such a storm.

Kamel continued: "There is a possibility that part of these storms will reach Lebanon within 24 hours, so I ask the municipalities to be very careful and to conduct a comprehensive survey of everything that could be harmed, knowing that there are many old buildings, roads without maintenance and the greatest danger." Most of them are blocked by flood streams

He stressed that "the infrastructure in Lebanon is not equipped to receive climatic changes and rain in the form of torrential torrents, so the Ministry of Works must be fully prepared for the next storm and is grateful for what it has done in several areas of cleaning sewers, highways and canals, but it must There will be cooperation with the municipalities that have to do what is required of them to remove waste within the scope of their work, knowing that in the internal streets in several areas there are huge quantities of randomly dumped waste without treatment, all of which will become in the roads and cause floods for which the Lebanese citizen will pay.” He explained that "the Ministry of Environment gave its comments in this regard."

In addition, Kamel stressed “the role of municipalities in plans for confrontation and preparedness, civil defense and security forces, and the ministries concerned with this issue to try to avoid the damages of any possible storm that might strike Lebanon, noting that during the past 30 years we have witnessed a complete change in the movement of rain and its precipitation.” In Lebanon, more than before, it came in the form of torrential torrents and sudden torrential rains, which caused the flooding of several areas.

Kamel thanked the "High Relief Commission for the efforts it is making," noting that "for the first time we are witnessing devastating fires due to climate change as we approach the month of December."

And he expected "unusual flooding on the roads this year as a result of our unpreparedness for such major climatic changes and the ways of rainfall."

Kamel also warned that "if we do not witness seasonal rain naturally during this period, starting from today until December 3, we will witness a very long drought period, so we hope that the air cycle will hit Lebanon in the next three days."

In conclusion, Kamel indicated that "it is possible that these storms will strike the eastern Mediterranean countries and the neighboring countries as a whole, as it is possible this year, due to the dangerous climate change globally and the delay in the arrival of rain to the Middle East and the eastern Mediterranean, that this will cause rain and torrential rains. sweeping."
